Over twenty years ago Christian Science came to me in time of great need. I had been sick in bed for many weeks with what the doctors called peritonitis. A physician and a nurse were in attendance. I was told I should never be well again, but that an operation might help me, although it was doubtful. I went to Florida thinking the warm climate might be beneficial, but it was not. I was still in pain, walked with difficulty, and required the care of a physician.
A man seeing my condition asked me if I should like to take a book he had which had healed him. I knew what it was, though I had never seen the book and thought I did not want it. I was prejudiced against what I thought Christian Science to be, but it seemed to be my only hope, so I took the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read it that afternoon and late into the night. A change took place. The next day I asked the doctor not to come again until I called him. For several weeks I kept the medicine, thinking the pain might return; but it did not. I was healed. I threw away the medicine, and God has been my only physician since the first day I read the book.
On page xi of the Preface to Science and Health are these words: "The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation." To me my healing was one of the "signs" that our Master said should "follow them that believe." I am grateful to Christ Jesus, who showed us the way, and it is with thankfulness to God and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy that I give this testimony. My daily prayer is that I may gain in wisdom and knowledge so that I may help others as I have been helped.— Saranac Lake, New York.
