TRUE EMPLOYMENT AND AMBITION

From the April 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

OUR true employment is expressing God in right thinking; our true ambition, to be so employed. Jesus said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." In this familiar text the Master set forth a great truth, that "life eternal" is found in the recognition and consciousness of man's oneness with his creator.

Because man is inseparable from God, who is Mind, he is a conscious being; and his consciousness is the reflection of the divine Mind. This spiritual fact shows that man cannot be other than man, and that he can have no activity other than that of reflecting God.

Furthermore, it may be noted that our true employment of expressing God through right thinking includes right ambition. This is true because ambition to express God is a divine quality, inseparable from the real man's true nature as an idea of God. Hence, the expression of this quality, as of all other qualities, is embraced in the true employment of manifesting the beauty, power, and grandeur of God.
