Testimonies of Healing

It is with a deep sense of gratitude...

From the June 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I add my testimony to those which appear regularly in our Christian Science periodicals, and which are a source of great joy and refreshment to me. Christian Science was brought to my notice by a dear aunt. It was an answer to prayer. Brought up in a Christian home, I read a portion of the Bible daily. In Proverbs the admonitions to get wisdom and understanding were so frequent that it seemed desirable I should ask God to give me this wisdom and understanding. My being led to Christian Science was the answer to that prayer.

About eight years ago, my husband and I decided to go to Australia from Scotland; but one morning, after reading the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, I was overwhelmed with the step we had decided to take, as there was no necessity for us to leave home. I closed my eyes and asked God to give me a message which would indicate whether or not it was right for us to go to Australia. I put my fingers in the Bible and opened my eyes, and these words stood out: "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." Oh, the joy that flooded my heart! I said, "Thank you, Father." We came to Australia, and God has blessed us and directed our way in a truly wonderful manner; indeed, words are inadequate to express His manifold blessings.

For many healings in Christian Science I thank God: healings of influenza, whooping cough, chicken pox, an instantaneous healing of dengue fever, muscular rheumatism, and colds. For the protective power of Truth I am indeed grateful. One Sunday my elder boy was on his way to the Christian Science Sunday School when, on alighting from a tram, he was knocked down by a motor car. A Christian Science practitioner who witnessed the incident immediately declared the truth, and silently, in the crowd, did her work. The onlookers thought the boy might be killed. When the car stopped, after traveling more than its length, the occupants of the car picked him up. He was crying, but wanted to go to Sunday school. The practitioner and the man whose car had knocked him down, however, brought him home. I undressed him and examined his body. His knees were cut and bleeding and there was a discolored lump on his forehead, but otherwise not a mark or bruise was found. The practitioner stayed for an hour and worked for him. In two days he was running about quite well and happy. I am very grateful for the instant declaration of the truth and the work so lovingly done by that dear practitioner.
