With a grandfather, a father, two cousins, and a sister graduates from medical colleges, and with a loving mother eager to dispense in generous doses whatever they prescribed, I have had a great deal of medical treatment; and I am grateful for the love that prompted my parents to use the very best remedies of which they knew.
When a baby three weeks old I contracted a very severe case of lung trouble; in fact, my twin brother passed on at that time with the same complaint. This left me under a very heavy thought of fear that my lungs had been weakened and that I should become a victim of tuberculosis. All through my boyhood there was apparent reason for this fear. Later, after leaving home, I became interested in Christian Science through a friend. I began to study the Bible in the light reflected upon it from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. I also began to attend the church services regularly. After a few months I turned completely away from medical treatment to Christian Science treatment for my help. When my parents heard of this they were filled with fear, and the statement was made, "Now he won't last long." When I think of this now I smile, because I realize that instead of being the last of me, it really was just the beginning. Later my parents frankly admitted that Christian Science had done wonders for me.
My turning away from dependence on material remedies to dependence on God for help was the beginning of my finding health. This was followed by continued improvement, and I now enjoy good health.
