It is in a spirit of deep gratitude that I send this testimony of an outstanding case of healing through Christian Science. When my son was a little over two years old, he suddenly developed spasms of an alarming nature. I at once got Christian Science treatment for him, but was obliged, through circumstances over which I had no control, to call in a doctor, who diagnosed the trouble as encephalitis, and could promise no recovery. As we lived on a farm the child was taken to a hospital, where he was given injections. When I heard the doctor's verdict, I declared that what men could not do, God could do and would do, for Jesus' teachings abound in promises of healing. The sickness developed, leaving him bereft of the power of speech and with arrested mental development, conditions terribly painful to behold. But for the effectual work, constant assurance, and comfort from the practitioner who worked for us, as well as the support and comfort of my sisters, who are all Christian Scientists, I could never have borne it as I did. I am so grateful to say that one by one the distressing symptoms were overcome through Christian Science treatment, and gradually the child grew strong; then he began to speak, and to manifest intelligence; and by the time he was five years old he was quite normal. He is now eight years old; and doing splendidly at school—a boy of fine character and a great joy to us.
