In 1917 I was, as I had been for several years, suffering from constant hemorrhage. One of the leading surgeons of Boston intimated that the cause was cancer, and told me that I must be operated upon without a moment's delay. At this time my right hand was crippled and very painful. An X-ray picture showed an abnormal condition on my wrist, and the doctor said the hand would become paralyzed as a result of it. I was also suffering from spinal trouble, constant headaches, partial paralysis of the bowels, and nervous prostration. I had undergone several major operations, and had spent five months in a sanitarium. Receiving no help, and growing constantly worse, I lost all faith in materia medica, and so I refused to submit to this operation which had been advised.
About this time God in His infinite mercy brought Christian Science to my notice. I procured the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This book and the Bible I read constantly, and, with the occasional help of a practitioner, in a few years I was completely healed of all my diseases.
During the winter of 1920, while I was staying with my family at a southern winter resort, my youngest son in separating two fighting dogs had his arm and hand badly lacerated and bitten. This occurred late in the afternoon. That evening his arm was swollen twice its normal size and he was crying in great pain. Meanwhile I was working in Science for him. During the night the arm and hand were completely healed, and in the morning showed scarcely a scar.
