In 1914 one of the leading physicians of New York state told me that a trip to another climate would perhaps be of some help to me; so I started for California with plenty of luggage, mostly mental, which included belief in a complication of rheumatic infections of eight years' standing, catarrh of the stomach, severe eye trouble, fallen arches, and other ailments. One year later I returned, none the better for my trip, and it was then that I was entirely healed through the application of Christian Science.
In 1917 I was examined and passed for service in the army, and before long I was on the battlefields of France. I spent seventy-seven consecutive days in the war zone, and returned without a scratch. Although the experience included much water and mud, there was no return of the old trouble. Also I wish to mention right here that not a man fell by my side.
About a year after the Armistice was signed I accepted a position in a near-by city, and shortly after my arrival to take up my new duties I was suddenly attacked with what doctors would term a stroke of paralysis or a shock. A Christian Science practitioner was asked to work for me, and in about two weeks I returned to my regular duties, absolutely free.
