Testimonies of Healing

From the October 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Heaven is not a locality, but a divine state of Mind," writes our Leader on page 291 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and on page 587 of the same volume among other definitions of "heaven" she gives "harmony," "spirituality," "bliss." Everyone who has experienced healing of mortal discord through the application of Christian Science has had, in some measure, glimpses of heaven and its glories. There have been moments when this "divine state of Mind" was so real to my consciousness that in truth I experienced heaven on earth.

A year or so after I commenced the study of Christian Science my toes became raw, inflamed, and covered with blisters. At times the pain was intense. Well do I remember the spiritual joy and bliss that came to me one night as I realized the unreality of the condition. I could truly say with Christ Jesus, "I knew that thou hearest me always." To mortal sense the physical condition was unchanged, but I retired happier and freer than at any previous time in my life. The next morning the inflammation and pain were gone, and a thin skin had formed over the raw spots. It was but a short time until the toes were normal.

Sometime later, a small coupe, in which I was riding with my brother and his wife, was struck by another machine. When it appeared that the collision was unavoidable, the healing assurance instantly came, God protects! Every piece of glass in our car was broken, one door torn off, and the car turned over after being knocked about fifteen to twenty feet. Not one of us was even scratched, although my sister-in-law's coat received a razorlike cut about one inch long. Of course I was grateful for this protection, and again I experienced that spiritual bliss and joy which can only be heaven. However, the glorious feature of this demonstration was still to come. Conscious only of God's goodness I was able to act as peacemaker between my brother and the man whose machine had hit ours. I do not know what I said, for truly divine Mind furnished the thought, but I do know that a few words brought instant harmony that later included a right settlement for damages, without recourse to a civil court.
