It is with deep gratitude that I give this testimony of the healing power of Christian Science. For nearly nine years I had been ill; and at the time this Science was presented to me I was in a desperate state of mind, having had an X-ray examination—after two major operations a year previous to this—and having been given little hope of ever being well again. It was then that a member of my family, who had become interested in Christian Science, recommended that I go to a practitioner. I did so, and from that moment life took on quite a different aspect.
I have had many healings during the eight years that I have been endeavoring to follow our Leader's teachings. A condition of giddiness and faintness which troubled me for over two years was healed. This enabled me to become an active member of a branch church. A few weeks after I took up the study of Christian Science I was staying in a foreign country and was going for the first time to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, when I fell and hurt one of my wrists. I at once went to a practitioner and asked for help, at the same time saying that I should like to get a cooling lotion. It was pointed out very lovingly but firmly that I must choose which treatment I was going to have. I then took my stand for Truth, and the healing was wonderful. I did not use a sling or support of any kind. About ten days later, to satisfy my family, I had the wrist X-rayed, and it was found that it had been fractured in two places, but had set perfectly. The doctor was amazed at the progress and that I had been able to use my hand after the first few days. He told me I should have a stiff joint unless I had massage. Needless to say, I did not agree to this, and in a very short time the healing was complete. During the experience I took every opportunity to be alone, so that I could read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
Colds have practically disappeared; insomnia has been overcome; and chronic liver attacks, which were so bad that I nearly always spent about two weeks in bed, unable to read or to do anything, have been healed. It was suggested by a doctor that if I starved for seventy-two hours I should be better. I did this, drinking only water, but none of the treatments did any permanent good. The realization that God's child cannot be separated from good has over and over again solved what seemed to be insurmountable difficulties.
