My first knowledge of Christian Science...

From the February 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My first knowledge of Christian Science came not through a healing, but because the seed was sown when I was visiting in a western city. It was only three months afterwards, however, when I was in a hospital and was not expected to live, that I called upon Christian Science for healing. I was taken with acute appendicitis and was operated upon immediately. The week following I had adhesions of the bowels and had to have another major operation, although I was in a very weakened state. The doctor told my husband that it would be an easy death for me, and they were just waiting for me to pass on. At this critical stage a telephone message was sent to a practitioner almost three hundred miles away. A few hours later the bowels resumed their normal activity. My recovery was rapid and complete.

Since that time I have been helped at the birth of our two boys and have been able to ward off so-called children's diseases for them through my own understanding. I have been healed of a great disappointment and have been sustained through a trying period of disillusionment. Through the study of Mrs. Eddy's works and all the periodicals, and also through active work in a branch church, I have been given strength to press on in spite of all difficulties. I am grateful for the patient and loving help received from practitioners, for membership in The Mother Church, and for class instruction.—
