THE VALUE OF SPIRITUAL IDEAS

From the February 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ON page 307 of "Miscellaneous Writings" our Leader writes, "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies." The deep significance of this statement may not at first be clear to the beginner in the study of Christian Science, because he has not as yet learned the value of spiritual ideas, or discerned how they can affect his human experience. The relation of spiritual ideas to his daily needs may seem to him vague and indefinite, for he has yet to apprehend the great fact that the things of Spirit alone are real and tangible.

Spiritual ideas are inexhaustible. Indeed, the more one uses a spiritual idea the more one is aware of its availability, and the more he proves its infinite nature. Furthermore, spiritual ideas are omnipresent, always present to be apprehended and utilized. A spiritual idea, being an expression of infinite intelligence, manifests good alone. It can never be affected by what seem to be adverse material conditions. Moreover, a spiritual idea is always available wherever it is needed. How many times Moses proved this for the children of Israel when want and danger seemed imminent! Where human sense claimed that dire need existed, there the great Hebrew lawgiver proved the presence and availability of spiritual reality.

In giving us His spiritual ideas, our Father-Mother God gives all that expresses good. Infinite Love could do no more; full provision has been made for every need. Even as during the long winter months the leaf and flower which will gladden our eyes in the coming summer season are already safely unfolding in the bud, so those spiritual things which will further enrich and beautify our human experience are here now, enfolded in true consciousness, awaiting only increased spiritual perception to bring them forth.
