Since I have been a student of...

From the February 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Since I have been a student of Christian Science it has been proved to me that any kind of human ill can be dispelled by the truth as understood in Christian Science; and I am especially grateful that I have been able to prove in my own experience that grief is no more difficult to heal through Christian Science than any other woe, although it seems to human sense that time alone can heal the heart of the fear for and loss of departed loved ones.

Returning home late one night I learned that my mother, dearest in all the world to me, and from whom I had scarcely been separated in over thirty years except for the period of military service, had been in an accident a few hours before and had passed on within a few minutes. The simple, fundamental truth that Life is endless quieted and comforted me that night and the following morning, as I went about attending to the various duties.

The afternoon found me alone in my home, tired and discouraged at the loss of this beloved one with whom there had always been a mutual sharing of every experience. The day was gloomy, and as I stood by the window watching a driving wind work havoc in the garden, grief and resentment swept through my thought as I wondered at evil being so ruthless and relentless in taking away what I held so dear. I knew, however, that God, who is Life, was not responsible for anything like that, and that I was only being tempted to come down from my stronghold of right thinking.
