Testimonies of Healing

I desire to express gratitude for...

From the July 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I desire to express gratitude for Christian Science and for the many good things—health, joy, freedom, harmony, peace of mind, and many other treasures—that have come to us through this Science. Our family have enjoyed many physical healings, including those of an abscess in the ear, tonsillitis, sick headaches, constipation, and coughs. Christian Science came to us in a crucial moment of despair, lifting us out of a situation that had much human tragedy in it; and it is of this I wish to tell.

For a long time we had shut ourselves up in a little world of false ambition, pride of achievement, and the desire to be great in the eyes of the world. For many years my husband carried on a large international business. The so-called best of society were his bosom friends, and his pride knew no bounds. Then one day we awoke to find our false gods of business, success, and money making shaken in their very foundation, and with the next gust of wind they toppled over. To our dismay they took with them those whom we had always considered our best friends. In the usual ineffectual human way, we floundered about here and there seeking to save ourselves. Instead, matters grew worse, and what remained of my husband's large business was taken to the courts to be thrashed out.

A very strong attack was started against us, and our funds were tied up by a court order. Then with the aid of personal influence, criminal indictments were secured against my husband, thus automatically making the release and reinstatement of our money and position dependent upon the disposal of these criminal charges. At this point Christian Science found us. At first we could not see how it could be of any help, as the case had already been going on for three years, innumerable lawyers' briefs had been filed, and every day saw matters becoming more complicated. As we began to learn in Science of our real status as God's children, that we had inherited all good, and that consequently our troubles were as imaginary as any illusion can be, the entire morass of error began to dissolve. In place of hatred came thoughts of love; in place of pride and revenge came loving regard for others; but the struggle was fierce and long, and ofttimes seemed beyond human endurance.
