When I was a young girl I was asked to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This I began to do, thinking that when I had read it the one desiring me to do so would be satisfied and would trouble me no more. Very soon, however, I realized that here was a practical religion, one which could be applied to every condition in human experience, so I began to study eagerly and earnestly. Since that time I have experienced many healings.
One healing for which I am especially grateful is that of a nervous breakdown through which I went down into the very depths of suffering and misery, and was so tormented that I was sorely tempted to take my life. Through the help of a practitioner the condition was healed. I had supposedly inherited a nervous constitution which had been aggravated by prenatal conditions and by a severe illness in childhood. Through the understanding gained of the real nature of man as the reflection of God I have proved nervousness to be no part of my true being; and I have experienced more confidence, peace, and harmony than it seemed could ever be possible.
While having treatment for the nervous breakdown I had several teeth taken out. The dentist was frankly amazed at the whole affair, for I refused to have any anesthetic. The operation was performed without pain, in fact as it proceeded I became increasingly joyful. At that time my teeth were very fragile and brittle, but during a visit to the dentist some years later I was told my teeth were quite strong and healthy.
