Words are inadequate to express my heartfelt gratitude for the physical healings, inspiration, and spiritual awakening which I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. What I am most truly grateful for is the true concept of God which I have gained through the joy of loving and serving my neighbor; also the sheer joy of living that has come to me.
I came into Christian Science for physical healing. My first healing was of a serious nervous breakdown that had held me in bondage for several months in a hospital, after which I was no better. I returned to my home and struggled several months longer with the condition, until Christian Science was presented to me by my sister and my brother, who was a physician. I consented to have Christian Science treatment, and I was healed in two weeks by the aid of a practitioner and through my study of Science and Health.
I continued the study for four years after that, but vacillated between Science and medicine, and did not take my stand for Truth. At the end of that time I suffered greatly from a severe hemorrhage which left me very weak and nervous, and I wished to die, as I gave up all hope in everything. My daughter called a physician, and I was treated by him and several others for a period of eight months, and like the woman in the Bible "suffered many things of many physicians, . . . and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse," so in sheer desperation I took excessive amounts of a sedative day and night to drown my troubles. The drug seemed to affect my heart, and I had a heart attack.
