"In proportion as matter loses to human sense all entity as man, in that proportion does man become its master." This sentence on page 369 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy has been very helpful to me in my effort to get away from material thinking.
Over four years ago I began the study of Christian Science with my whole heart, for I loved it from the beginning. Many beautiful healings have resulted in our family of five. Adenoids, which a physician said were present, disappeared after ten days' treatment in Christian Science, and the physician pronounced the difficulty healed; also appendicitis, after forty hours, left as suddenly as it began; and a fallen organ lifted, giving me such a feeling of well-being that I seemed to be walking on air. This condition had been very painful, and had made me unfit to do my housework. These healings have all been permanent.
One child was completely healed of what I believe was scarlet fever, in twenty-four hours' time. The practitioner gave but two treatments. A part of the time the child was so ill that he lost consciousness. From this experience I learned that error exists only in thought and from thought it must be removed. The child showed no evidence of ever having experienced anything inharmonious. Before we began studying Christian Science the same boy had been given a serum for poison ivy. It had not been properly made, the physician told us, for every few months he would break out under the skin with large pimples, which caused much suffering. When we began to study Science relief resulted, but not until about two years ago did the error end. I was alone with the children one night when the condition manifested itself all over his body. I worked for several hours, but he grew no better. I was about to call a practitioner when the thought came to kneel and pray for understanding. At once I seemed full of light. This experience was so pronounced and quick as to startle and awaken me. The child was quiet the rest of the night, and there has been no return of this condition.
