GOD FIRST

From the January 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is the only power, the only Mind. To His spiritual idea, man, there is no secondary power or creator, and no lesser existence than God's expression, no unlikeness to God. The true idea is not aware of that which cannot be known spiritually. Therefore, Mind's spiritual ideas are safe and protected, always abiding in good. As God is omnipresent, His ideas dwell within the all-presence of good and cannot go outside of that ever-presence.

Since God is first and All, because He is infinite Principle, the ideas of Mind recognize, obey, and love the one and only God. They have no choice between obedience and disobedience, for they are naturally obedient to the only law they can  know—God's law. In the Science of being there is but one God, and in all creation the hallelujah chorus is, God first and only!

In speaking of God and of the universe and man, Mrs. Eddy writes in "Unity of Good" (p. 10), "He is perfect, and governs them in the Truth of divine Science, whereof God is the Alpha and Omega, the centre and circumference." This is the answer to a quest for the location of God: God is everywhere; and there is no place outside of His allness. As there is nothing besides the omnipresence of good, there is but one real power, the power of good. Obviously, we do not have to create this oneness of power; we do not have to make man obedient to divine law; we do not have to make one idea love another, for this oneness of power expresses the kingdom of heaven, even the very heaven which Jesus said was within, that is, manifested by man. Christian Science, first by undeniable logic, then by unimpeachable evidence through demonstration, lifts us to the spiritual eminence in consciousness whereby we know the true nature of God as the only Mind.
