Christian Science is revealed to this world as a mighty challenge to every form and phase of sense testimony which seems so undeniably to enter into the experience of men. In spite of and in the face of the discordant testimony of mortal sense, however appalling it may seem to be, we are learning in our study of Christian Science how to declare with an ever-increasing certainty, born of an enriched understanding of God and of man in God's image, that we are the children of God, or as Paul says, "the temple of the living God."
Yes, we can challenge all evil with the scientific assertion that our life, the life of each and all of us, has always been, is now, and must forever be "hid with Christ in God;" safe, therefore, and secure, untouched and untouchable, unattacked and unattackable, the same yesterday, today, and forever. Knowing this, the Christian Scientist strives to make the truth about Life the basis of his thought; and in proportion as he does so he realizes with ever-increasing joy and certainty that he is no longer at the mercy of mere mortal sense testimony, pleasant or otherwise, but is first, last, and always the blessed child of God.
Speaking of the spiritual idea in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 463), Mrs. Eddy has written, "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." She also states (ibid., p. 325): "In Colossians (iii. 4) Paul writes: 'When Christ, who is our life, shall appear [be manifested], then shall ye also appear [be manifested] with him in glory.' When spiritual being is understood in all its perfection, continuity, and might, then shall man be found in God's image. The absolute meaning of the apostolic words is this: Then shall man be found, in His likeness, perfect as the Father, indestructible in Life, 'hid with Christ in God,'—with Truth in divine Love, where human sense hath not seen man."
