Christian Science has brought untold blessings into my experience in the years since I first began the study of this all-satisfying truth. One healing in particular which has brought me immeasurable freedom took place in the first year or so.
From early childhood I had struggled with a sense of backwardness or self-consciousness so binding that if I saw someone coming along the street whom I knew and would have to speak to, I did everything possible—even to walking around the block—to avoid the contact with them. This sense continued, with some improvement, as I grew older; but not until I became interested in Christian Science did I really begin to attain any degree of freedom or poise. Gradually the emergence into normal conditions was demonstrated through natural growth in the understanding of Christian Science and with no direct effort. I can never really be grateful enough for this healing, for it brought me the ability to do public work such as acting as head of public organizations and soloist in church services, as well as other singing in a public way for many years. It has given me the poise necessary to conduct church services and the ability to be joyous and easy in my every contact with others.
We have had many other demonstrations of the power of Truth in our home, such as healings of so-called children's diseases, sprained ankle, burns, bronchial pneumonia, sorrow and grief at the passing on of loved ones, and many other conditions too numerous to mention.
