When I was a little girl I had a playmate who attended the Christian Science Sunday School, and whose mother radiated so much love as a student of this Science that I found myself attracted to the very name "Christian Science," and so it was that I began attending the Sunday school, and a short time later my brother also began attending. Thus it was that the healing message of Truth was brought into our home.
One member of the family, when a young child, had been run over by a milk wagon, one wheel passing over her head. There resulted an inharmonious condition of the ear, which had bothered her for many years, and even though an operation had been performed at one time, there was no improvement. Many times a day a disagreeable discharge from the injured ear had to be taken care of. Very soon after Christian Science came into our home this ear condition was entirely healed, and she never knew when the healing took place. It simply dawned in her thought one day that she had not been troubled in the slightest degree for some time. No specific work was done with regard to this difficulty, and no especial effort was made on her part to read or study. The healing influence of divine Truth, however, as brought home and shared by my brother and myself as Sunday school pupils, proved effectual, and the healing as herein mentioned illustrates the truth of the statement in "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 9), where Mrs. Eddy writes, "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases."
Another member of the family was healed of a severe case of blood poisoning, which had resulted from a bruise of the leg and side. A physician who had been attending the case for four days stated that it was his opinion that the patient could not live longer than eleven o'clock that night, on account of gangrene or mortification. It was at this point that he was asked if he would consider having help in Christian Science. He consented, and at seven o'clock that evening a Christian Science practitioner came, and gave a treatment during the one hour she was there. The patient fell asleep during that time and slept soundly until nine o'clock the following morning, which was the first sleep he had had during the four days and nights. When he awakened he was entirely healed, without the slightest vestige of the ugly condition which had seemed so in evidence only the evening before, and he went to his work that day with more joy and zest than he had ever known before.
