Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has awakened...

From the December 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has awakened me to see and understand something of the grand inheritance that is mine as a child of the one Father-Mother God. For this awakening I am grateful.

I have had many trials, but always, when Christian Science has been properly applied, the unchanging harmony of reality has been realized. Ivy poisoning, arsenic poisoning, acid and other burns, dislocated kneecap, chronic sore throat, sorrow, unemployment, and fears of various sorts have been overcome. I have found that in working for a higher understanding I have always been divinely cared for and protected.

One particular experience stands out. I suddenly seemed to be afflicted by a severe case of infection that was accompanied by a high fever. Although the fever seemed to be raging, I did not become delirious. I was unable to eat or drink for several days, but was sustained by the knowledge that "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." I looked into a mirror and what I saw was so distressing that I decided not to look again. We can never see the real man by looking into a mirror. On Friday I tried to work for myself, but on Saturday I asked a practitioner for help. I am very grateful for her steadfast, consecrated, and uplifting work during this whole experience. She asked me to read the following statement on page 277 of "Miscellaneous Writings" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy: "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." I could not read because my eyes seemed to be closed, but a member of my family read to me. On Sunday I was able to sit up and listen to the radiocasting of the Christian Science service. On Monday I was able to walk about the house unassisted. On Wednesday I attended the testimony meeting at a branch church and walked home, a distance of some four miles.
