What a joyous sense of freedom wells up in consciousness when, through the earnest study of Christian Science, one begins to perceive the truth that true supply is God-given and at hand—is not only available to man, God's image, but included in man's existence. Having perceived somewhat the truth about supply, one progresses joyously to prove that supply is not something material to be received, but is something spiritual to be expressed.
Having occasion to consider deeply the true meaning of supply, on account of various obligations, a Christian Scientist was greatly helped by studying all that has been written on the subject of reflection by Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our Leader writes (pp. 515, 516): "Your mirrored reflection is your own image or likeness. If you lift a weight, your reflection does this also." Then she says, "Now compare man before the mirror to his divine Principle, God," and adds, "As the reflection of yourself appears in the mirror, so you, being spiritual, are the reflection of God."
In pondering this passage the student saw that man possesses all that he needs because he reflects God, who is infinite Being. This recognition immediately obliterates any lingering, superstitious, and vain hope that in some way God should or could supply matter. It is not possible for the reflection to have anything other than that which is included in the original. However, as will be seen, the human need may be perfectly met through spiritual understanding.
