The Biblical account of creation, as given in the first chapter of Genesis, closes with the statement, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." All Christianly scientific healing is based upon this premise. Christian Science teaches that since God made all that was made, and made everything good, there is nothing in the real universe but good. God's work is done, and Christian Science shows us how to behold what God has done.
Throughout her writings Mary Baker Eddy points to the reality of omnipresent good. The student of this Science gains a scientific understanding of God and His good creation, which enables him to overcome every belief in, or fear of, a power other than good. In "Unity of Good" she says (p. 3): "God is All-in-all. Hence He is in Himself only, in His own nature and character, and is perfect being, or consciousness. He is all the Life and Mind there is or can be. Within Himself is every embodiment of Life and Mind." And she also says, "If He is All, He can have no consciousness of anything unlike Himself; because, if He is omnipresent, there can be nothing outside of Himself."
But someone may ask, What about the evil that seems to enslave mankind with its arguments of sin, disease, and death? Christian Science refers the questioner to the second chapter of Genesis, wherein is found the mortal or material account of creation. Following the words, "But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground," we find a second account, diametrically opposed to the account as given in the first chapter. Both of these accounts cannot be true. Christian Science accepts the first record as the true one and proves by healing that its premise is correct.
