Testimonies of Healing

I am a living witness to the healing...

From the May 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am a living witness to the healing power of Christian Science. One evening during the first week in July, 1930, I became dangerously ill. A member of the family who is not a Scientist was visiting us at the time and a doctor was called in. On examining me he said he wished to call another doctor for consultation, and a third doctor was also called. The conclusion was reached that I was suffering from appendicitis and peritonitis, and that if they could get me to the hospital in the next thirty minutes they might be able to save my life. My wife told the doctor that we could not go their way, as we were Christian Scientists. The doctor said, "Well, it is too bad to lose a good man like that," whereupon she told him that I was in the hands of the Great Physician and that I would be healed.

A Christian Science practitioner was called, and immediate treatment was requested. Before the practitioner reached our home the severe pain and poisoning had been overcome. The doctor called the next morning of his own accord, and informed me that I was a great deal better and would not need an operation, but that I was still "far in the woods." This case was left entirely in the hands of God and Christian Science, and Truth was not found wanting, the healing being complete.

I am deeply grateful to the practitioner who was so patient with me, coming any hour of the day or night, and always willing to help me. During the first ten days of illness I lost over fifty pounds. One evening I was so weak that it seemed as if I should pass on. The practitioner said, "God is your Life;" and this so roused me that from that time on each day saw improvement. I am also grateful to my Christian Science friends who called with words of love and cheer. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for Science and Health, and all her other writings; for class instruction, and for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; and I bow in humble gratitude before God for this healing, and for all my blessings.—
