I am most deeply grateful for all the joy and health and freedom which Christian Science has brought into my life. I have had many healings, but above all I am grateful for the wonderful sense of God's nearness and ever-presence which the study of Christian Science has brought to me.
On page 60 of "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy says, "To regard sin, disease, and death with less deference, and only as the woeful unrealities of being, is the only way to destroy them." One healing which I had, helped me to understand some-what the meaning of this passage. For several years I had suffered from asthma, not badly, but sufficiently for it to be hindering and tiresome at times and to cause me some inconvenience. One day I met a friend, a Christian Science practitioner, whom I had not seen for some time. She asked me how I was getting on and I told her that I thought my understanding of Christian Science was growing, but that I could not seem to overcome the asthma, at which she seemed very much surprised. I asked her to help me. That evening the asthma seemed more tiresome than usual. My friend's surprise that I had not yet seen through this belief, but was still treating it as a reality, roused me to do some very decided thinking. Then I began to see that I was constantly limiting myself by a belief of shyness and self-consciousness, by thoughts turned in upon myself, instead of freely giving out love and friendship and compassion for others; and I determined to try to think less about myself and more of others, to try to express more joy and gratitude, more love and freedom, and to rejoice in the sense of God's love and protection which Christian Science was bringing to me. In a few days I was healed. This occurred some years ago, and it is one of the many healings for which I am deeply grateful.
I am very grateful for all the activities of the Christian Science movement, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for class instruction, which I have found of great practical value. My heart goes out in deepest gratitude to our Leader for her wonderful work in giving Christian Science to the world.—Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.
