In heartfelt gratitude to God for the many blessings which Christian Science has brought into my life, I give this testimony.
In 1914 I underwent an operation for cancer, and a year later was preparing for another operation for the some disease when I was led to try Christian Science treatment. From the very first treatment I knew that, whether I was healed or not, I had found the heart-satisfying religion for which I had been longing.
Minor ailments, such as constipation and sick headaches, were soon overcome, but for some months the major trouble did not yield. My fear had assumed such proportions that I felt that I was fleeing before some horrible monster. Then in one of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly I read from Exodus the story of Moses being directed by God to cast his rod on the ground. When it became a serpent, Moses fled in terror from it; but at God's command, Moses turned and handled the serpent and it became a rod in his hand. Pondering this story, the thought came to me, If Moses had not obeyed the voice of Truth and turned about to face and handle the serpent, it would have remained a thing of terror to him. I knew then that I, too, must turn and face the fear which seemed to fill my consciousness completely, and handle it as we are taught to do in Christian Science. Right then and there I did so and had the exquisite joy of seeing this conglomeration of erring thoughts diminish, then completely disappear from my consciousness, and I knew that I was healed. With a heart singing with love and gratitude to our all-powerful heavenly Father I went about my work, and in about two weeks the physical manifestation of the disease had completely disappeared. The memory of this healing has always been a source of inspiration to me.
