Testimonies of Healing

My gratitude to God for the many...

From the June 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My gratitude to God for the many healings I have received through Christian Science is unbounded. Many years before the truth about God and man was revealed to me, my home and my relationship with my husband were discordant, and naturally our business suffered from this misfortune. At this time I left my home and a separation seemed the wisest thing. Then a very serious occurrence befell me which necessitated my being taken to a hospital. I was unconscious and in a critical condition and the doctors feared for my life. A relative, who had studied Christian Science, telephoned for a practitioner, who immediately began to give me treatment. Even when the surgeons had to sew the cuts on my head, face, and neck, without giving me an anesthetic, through the power of the Word of God, as made available by the Christian Science treatment, I felt no pain, nor were there any bad aftereffects. The doctors expressed surprise at this and declared that it was miraculous.

I knew nothing of Christian Science at this time. The next day, at the request of my family, the practitioner came to the hospital to see me. I can never tell in words the peace and calm that I felt as I lay there listening to the words of Love and Truth. I felt as if I had been raised to some hopeful state of joy which I had not known before. In a short time I was able to leave the hospital and began to study to know more of the God who had healed me, and thus I became a student of Christian Science.

Through the faithful work of the practitioner, and with consecrated devotion to the study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and attendance at church services, my husband and I and the rest of our family were all united and enjoyed a calm and understanding peace we never knew before. When this reunion took place my husband gave me a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, with the joyous news that he too had been faithfully studying Christian Science. I have studied prayerfully ever since, and have found that the remarkable healing I had was not miraculous, but, as our Leader says (Science and Health, Pref., p. xi), "supremely natural." During these troublesome times we had lost our home and business, but we were led to a new home and to a better business; and I have learned that true home is in divine Mind and that as I keep my thoughts pure and loving, in that proportion is my human home harmonious.
