One of the most desirable and necessary things of human life is good health, and the amount of thought, effort, time, and experimentation expended for its attainment and maintenance is incalculable. Still, many there are who find that health is not yet being experienced, and that sickness and discord are all too prevalent in daily living. Christian Science is blessing humanity abundantly by helping it to lift thought above matter as the source of health, and by turning it to the contemplation of health as one of the spiritual qualities of divine Mind, God.
On page 373 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" there appears a very practical statement, which is invaluable to the student who is endeavoring to demonstrate Christian Science in healing the sick. It is as follows: "Establish the scientific sense of health, and you relieve the oppressed organ. The inflammation, decomposition, or deposit will abate, and the disabled organ will resume its healthy functions." Perhaps the one reading this statement for the first time will wonder what is meant by "the scientific sense of health," and may ask how he should undertake to "establish" it. The understanding and correct application of Christian Science will definitely, quickly, and profitably answer this question by practical demonstration.
Unfortunately, mortals have been taught for many generations to look to the material body as the source of health. Matter, in one form or another, is looked upon as being capable not only of bestowing health, but also of destroying health. Thus, for untold years, the children of men have struggled on, at one time trusting matter and hoping it will bring them help and healing, and again fearing it will bring about their destruction.
