In 1929, 1 was stricken with rheumatism. Knowing nothing of Christian Science, I naturally turned to the physicians for treatment. One year of various treatments, as prescribed by them, did not heal the difficulty. With loss of time from employment, with finances nearly exhausted, I found myself facing a gloomy, discouraging future.
A change to California climate was finally resorted to, but still I continued hobbling along, using a cane and walking scarcely two blocks before I was completely exhausted.
Then into my darkened consciousness came the light of Christian Science; I began its study by reading a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel. With joy I eagerly read the truths expressed therein. This led me to go to a Reading Room, where I borrowed Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Through my ardent perusal of this volume the dense cloud of materiality began clearing away. I early visited a practitioner, who showed me how to read Science and Health without condemning those things I did not understand, and to wait for spiritual enlightenment to come as I progressed. The practitioner's counsel was wise, and I profited much in the study of Christian Science by waiting without criticism or condemnation for the truth to unfold.
