MANY statements in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" arrest attention and guide us to the truth. One such is included in "the scientific statement of being" on page 468, where Mrs. Eddy writes, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." To accept this fact is to admit that there is no cause or effect apart from God, infinite Mind.
Mortals have been led to believe that there is a power apart from God, good. What is most important for all to understand is the truth, the truth which Jesus revealed, lived, and demonstrated in destroying evil, disease, and death. It was this truth that had the power to annihilate the false belief in cause and effect as material. With this truth Jesus unshackled men's thinking; and this unfettering is still going on. He said that we, his followers, should do likewise: "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." By understanding the true nature of God, as revealed in Christian Science, we are knowing the truth, which reveals but one power, one cause and one effect, one "infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation."
In the work of healing, the Christian Scientist is often confronted with the belief that heredity is a cause for some diseases and sinful habits. This belief is losing its assumed potency. The Christian Science practitioner refutes the belief in heredity, for he knows that God, good, is the only cause or creator; that there can be none other than this one and only cause. He holds fast to this truth, and maintains the spiritual fact that man is good and perfect, since he is made in the image and likeness of God, the Father-mother of the universe and man. He declares, as did Jesus, "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."
