Testimonies of Healing

I am so grateful to Christian Science...

From the April 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am so grateful to Christian Science for its healing power and for the spiritual uplifting I have experienced for the past thirty years, during which time I have relied solely on its truths to meet every need, that I wish to contribute my testimony. One summer day I stepped hurriedly onto a friend's piazza, which was wet and slippery from the rain. I slid, took a double twist, and landed very heavily on my arm. Great concern was expressed by all, but I assured them that I was all right. This statement which Mrs. Eddy makes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 283) immediately came to my thought: "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action."

I could not move my arm without great pain. I realized that all real action is included in Life, God, and that God could not include painful action; and the arm was soon comfortable. However, I could not raise it to my head; but the next day I could do so, although with some difficulty. On the third day there was marked improvement. On this day I attended a Christian Science lecture, which was so uplifting that it helped me to realize that man is spiritual and not material; that he is the idea of God, good, and therefore this seeming condition, which was not a good condition, could not be true. At the end of the fourth day the false condition had vanished and the arm was as normal as before. I call this mental surgery because, according to material belief, there had been something wrong with the bone in the arm; but according to divine law all is perfection.

I am grateful for a healing over two years ago of frozen feet, which were very painful. This condition I overcame by applying the truth as taught in Christian Science, and the healing has been permanent. I am grateful also for the healing of blood poisoning in one arm. The arm seemed to be in a very serious condition from the wrist to the elbow. The arm was stiff and I suffered much pain. However, I communed with omnipotent and omnipresent Mind night and day for a week, and again error was shown to be nothingness, and the allness of God, Spirit, Truth, Principle, was proved. On page 260 of Science and Health we read, "The conceptions of mortal, erring thought must give way to the ideal of all that is perfect and eternal."
