I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science and for what it has done for me. Over three years ago I was stricken with what appeared to be a bad case of rheumatism, and was forced to quit my job; and this left me with no material income. I worried considerably, becoming worse, of course, and was unable to walk for quite a while; but finally, with the aid of crutches, I could get around. I tried doctors and chiropractors, taking as much as one treatment a day from a chiropractor, but I got few beneficial results. Finally I was able to get around with the aid of a cane and was offered a job in a tire store, but soon lost it on account of my inability to get around fast enough.
Here is where "man's extremity" was "God's opportunity." I met a friend who, after asking me to try Christian Science, took me to a practitioner. At the same time a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and other literature, which I began studying, were lent to me by other friends. They also accompanied me to church each Wednesday evening and Sunday morning. All this, with the loving help of a practitioner, soon gave me a new outlook on life, and I gradually got better. I then began to study in 'earnest. Loyal friends helped me to get to the Reading Room almost daily; I began to improve rapidly, and was soon able to walk without the aid of the cane. Later I was offered a job, and I have never been without employment since that time.
I was also healed of the desire for tobacco. I have found Christian Science to be the "pearl of great price" in my daily living, both in business and at home. There is nothing impossible to God, and through the study and practice of this Christ Science we are able to demonstrate this fact. The great privileges of teaching a Sunday school class and ushering in church are mine, both of which are especially strengthening to my spiritual growth and understanding. I am truly grateful for Christian Science.— Emporia, Kansas.
