The truth of two statements in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was proved to me in my first physical healing. These statements are: "The procuring cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, or sin" (p. 411); and, "When fear disappears, the foundation of disease is gone" (p. 368).
Soon after I became interested in Christian Science, some twelve years ago, my two children became ill with scarlet fever, so I asked a practitioner for help. The girl was completely healed within a few days, but a mastoid trouble developed in the little boy's ear. I was extremely frightened over this condition, but with the practitioner's help it, too, was soon healed. A short time after this I became seriously ill myself with scarlet fever. I asked the practitioner to come to see me, which she did, and during this visit I realized how, through my extreme fear, I had become ill. I was also impressed by the fact that the practitioner was willing to come to see me, for I knew that she had never had this disease. My fear was destroyed and I was healed.
Since that time I have been healed of an irritating skin disease, goiter, influenza, mumps, warts, impetigo, and a digestive trouble which physicians had formerly told me might lead to tuberculosis. I have also had the wonderful experience of a practically painless childbirth. This child was healed of a large hernia when a few months old.
