Love and gratitude prompt me to write this testimony, for I have experienced the blessings promised in the opening lines of the Preface to the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."
My first healing in Christian Science was instantaneous, and was accomplished through reading Science and Health. This healing was of a severe cold and cough of three months' duration, which had not yielded to the treatment of a throat specialist, nor been benefited by a change of climate. I had been reading for about half an hour when the coughing stopped, my head cleared, all pain vanished, and I was completely cured. This healing was wonderful to me, and the memory of it is often a source of encouragement and inspiration.
I continued reading the textbook and attended church services regularly, and after several months I took off glasses which I had been wearing for more than thirteen years. It was during this period, also, that another beautiful and outstanding healing took place. Before becoming interested in Christian Science, I had undergone an operation for the removal of a dormant tumor, which doctors had told me was hereditary. The condition had reappeared in less than six months, and the same physician had said that another operation would be necessary. When I began reading Science and Health, the tumor was causing me much pain and inconvenience, especially when I raised my arm. One day, as I lifted my arm, I found that all trace of the condition had disappeared. I do not know when the healing took place, but it has been permanent, and there has never been a return of the condition. This healing occurred more than twenty years ago.
