No teaching is clearer in the Scriptures, viewed in the light of Christian Science, than that at every point of apparent danger on land, at sea, or in the air, help of the most practical and adequate character is available, through recognition of the presence and nature of God. "Whither shall I flee from thy presence?" sang the Psalmist. "If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me."
The Bible abounds in proofs of the truth thus beautifully set forth. Abraham, Moses, the prophets, and others experienced such help, under many different conditions. At length, Christ Jesus said simply, without qualification as to time or place, "He that sent me is with me;" and rising to the most exalted demonstration of divine omnipresence that the world has yet seen, he proved that storms, hunger, time, space, sin, disease, death, even the sum total of materiality, had no dominion over him. And, referring to any follower who fulfills the needful conditions, he said, "The works that I do shall he do also."
The great import of Christian Science for all who seem to be in danger, and indeed for all mankind, is that it has explained these Scriptural words and works, so that all can understand them, and so that all can have like experiences of protection and dominion, in proportion to their understanding. Christian Scientists, while making no pretense of being perfect followers of the Master, while still earnestly striving to achieve higher proofs of the truth of his teaching, have nevertheless had many such experiences, both in peace and in war; and they gladly bring them, and the Science which explains them, to the attention of others, who may thereby be helped.
