ETERNAL SECURITY IN SPIRIT

From the December 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Several years ago, a young man living in a large city became interested in Christian Science, and, like many others, enjoyed the privilege of spending a part of his daily lunch hour in a Christian Science Reading Room. Each day he read a few pages in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Although he was not at first conscious of any definite spiritual uplifting, his desire to find a practical religion impelled him to continue.

One day as he was reading, the following passage held his attention (Science and Health, p. 297): "Faith is higher and more spiritual than belief. It is a chrysalis state of human thought, in which spiritual evidence, contradicting the testimony of material sense, begins to appear, and Truth, the ever-present, is becoming understood." As he read these words, he was aware of a new type of experience. A spiritual radiance illumined his consciousness, lightened the burden of fear and limitation, and inspired him with hope and gratitude to God. The words, "Truth, the ever-present," were repeated many times. They had given him a blessed and beautiful glimpse of something above material sense; something divine had been gained. This experience has never been forgotten, and the continued study and practice of Christian Science have brought additional spiritual growth and many healings.

Today thousands are able to tell of similar experiences, and those who have remained faithful to the spiritual vision and are consistently depending upon Christian Science for healing, are finding joy in the understanding of God as ever-present Love, and of their spiritual unity with divine Mind.
