For twenty-five years Christian Science has met both the spiritual and the human needs of our family. It has been the only physician for my children and myself, and has taught us to know that God sustains and governs man at all times and in all ways.
I should like to share a proof I had, in the summer of 1938, of the ever-presence and power of God. While I was driving on a highway at a great speed, a tire blew out. As I did not seem to be able to control the car, I turned my thoughts wholly to God, knowing He would care for me. The next thing I knew I was being cared for in a home.
The young highway deputy who had picked me up said my car had turned over several times and gone over a deep ditch, throwing me out. He said I kept insisting on being taken to a Christian Scientist and that a certain person be called. This proved to me that, even though I seemed to be unconscious, Mind is never unconscious, and I could demand what was right for me to have. The young officer took me to the nearest town. The Christian Scientist who received me at his request had her lamp trimmed and filled with the oil of consecration. She later told me that as she had studied the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly that morning, she had prayed to be of service in reflecting divine Love, and so when the opportunity came, she was indeed ready and waiting.
