In a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal are these lines:
Thou leadest me by unsought ways,
Thou turn'st my mourning into praise.
In the year 1915 I had a very grave illness, with serious complications. After above five months in bed in hospital I was able to get up, but my heart was in a very weak state, and I was suffering from acute anemia. I had a desire to take part in some form of war service, and as soon as I felt stronger I offered myself for service, but failed to pass the medical board. In 1918 I was again examined and told that my heart was in such a weak state I must never on any account get angry, and must never stoop, run upstairs, or hasten anywhere.
