SERVICE

From the October 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I thought of that brief time of ministry
When Jesus trod the shores of Galilee
And taught his followers God's love and power.
Had I lived then, I could have ministered
Unto him, and where'er he went and showed
The way to us, I would have followed too,
And done some lowly service for him there.

Then, sudden from my longing dream I woke.
My place was not on shores of Galilee,
But here, and now I must obey and do.
I saw my brother fainting by the way
And offered in Christ's name a cooling draught.
I clothed a needy one and gave him hope
. I lit a lamp to guide the stumbling feet,
To him who mourned I taught a song of praise.
For as ye do it to the least of these
Ye do it unto me—this is Truth's word.
I need not long for shores of Galilee.
My rightful work is here. Truth guides my hand.
Its presence now fulfills my longing dream.
I thank Thee, Father-Mother God, for this.
