"COME AND SEE"

From the March 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is well known that in Christian Science churches, and among their members in general, there is no attempt to persuade anyone to become a Christian Scientist; and the reason for this is plain when it is understood that Christian Science is in fact Science, no less than religion. One does not persuade a beginner in mathematics to accept the multiplication table. One explains it and illustrates its use, but recognizes that there is little to be gained until the other sees its value for himself and desires to make use of it; and so it is with Christian Science.

But somewhat as the multiplication table, when it first began to be understood, must have resolved much confusion among mortals, must have forestalled much conflict and made many things easy that before seemed difficult, so in a larger and happier way Christian Science has resolved difficulties for those who have begun to understand it; and the experience has given them a strong incentive to let the nature and merits of this Science appear to others, so that they also, and eventually all men, may have the benefits of it. For Christian Scientists perceive that all the blessings showered upon the race by mathematics and all the material sciences together are as nothing compared to the benefits now brought to the door of humanity by this Science of sciences.

The statements which it justifies are so great in their import as sometimes to seem incredible to beginners —too good to be true. Nevertheless, students of Christian Science understand that this Science offers to every individual precisely that which is required to satisfy him fully, and which alone can satisfy him, and that it offers no actual disadvantage to anyone along with its benefits. The wise man's saying, "The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it," is a matter-of-fact statement of the effect of Christian Science upon anyone who grasps and demonstrates it. It offers blessings without measure, and blessings alone, to everyone.
