I realize more each day that the only way I can ever really express my gratitude for the joy, happiness, abundant supply, protection, and healings I have had through Christian Science is to live the truth we are taught.
Over twenty years ago I attended for the first time a Christian Science service. A few weeks prior to this a very dear relative had passed on and I had been called to the home. The minister arrived shortly after I did, and his first words were, "We don't know why these things happen, but it is God's will." I was filled with resentment at his words, and decided that if such was the reward of going to church regularly and trying to do what was right, I would have nothing further to do with God or the church. I was in this unhappy state of mind when a friend asked my husband and me to attend a Christian Science Wednesday evening testimony meeting. The inscription, "God is Love," above the desk was the first thing I noticed upon entering the church, and I was instantaneously healed of the resentment I had held concerning God. The service was beautiful, and I learned that God sends only good to His children. My husband and I decided at the close of the service that we had found the church for which we had been looking, and shortly thereafter we enrolled our little daughter in the Christian Science Sunday School. After attending only a few services we were ready to rely on God for solving all our problems, and never through all the years which have followed have we ever resorted to material means for healing.
A few months after I became interested in Christian Science, without any specific work being done, a misplaced vertebra that had troubled me for years slipped back into place, and an internal trouble which a doctor said only an operation could heal, disappeared. In less than forty-five minutes I was healed of a burn caused by the spilling of boiling syrup over my entire hand and wrist. While on the way to the telephone to call a practitioner. I was repeating "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), when a voice seemed to say, "Why not see what you can do for yourself instead of always calling a practitioner?" I then took our textbook and studied the chapter on Prayer, including the Lord's Prayer with the spiritual interpretation as given on pages 16 and 17. I also repeated "the scientific statement of being" over and over, and kept thinking of the advice of Paul, "to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." In a short time the pain stopped, and I shall never forget my feeling of Love's healing power. I looked at my hand, knowing I was healed, and saw the color fade from a bright red into a natural hue within a few minutes. Thus was proved the truth of the statement, "The word of God is quick, and powerful." This quick, positive proof of the availability of God's power led me to take steps to join a branch church and The Mother Church, and later I had class instruction from one of Mrs. Eddy's loyal students.
