Years before I knew anything about Christian Science. I thought that if I had a religion which satisfied me I would not exchange it for the wealth of the land. However, I did not expect to find such a religion, since I had been a member of two different orthodox churches and had not found satisfaction.
My sister visited me and brought me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. After reading this book I knew that I had found the true religion, the "pearl of great price," and I continued to read it, day and night. I had been troubled for several years with what one physician called appendicitis. The pain was so severe that the doctors gave me opiates, but the aftereffects of this were as bad as the disease. One day, while I was alone, this pain began to be manifested, and the thought came to me, They say that people have been healed through reading Science and Health. I got the book and read a few pages, and the pain left me. That was thirty-three years ago, and the healing was so complete that I forgot all about it until a year later, although the attacks had been frequent before this.
I had often prayed that God would heal me of some ailment, and this healing was the answer to my prayer. I knew that God had healed me, and I realized that the only healing I needed was of believing that God was the creator of evil and sent diseases to His children.
