These words came to me at a time when, overcome with grief because of the sudden death of my husband through an accident, I was crying and praying to God to comfort me in my sorrow. We had just arrived in the West to make our home.
A little later I went back East, but while there I was taken very ill with nervous prostration, and had to be removed to a hospital. After several months I returned to the West.
After arriving here I was taken ill again, and the doctors said only an operation could help me. After I had undergone one, however, they told me that the trouble was incurable, for one kidney was gone and the other nearly gone. When strong enough to be removed, I was taken to my brother's home. After I had been there a few days, an officer from Fort Lewis visited my brother, who told him that I had only a short time to live. The officer then told my brother about Christian Science and said that it would heal me. He let me have his copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I started to study, and found it contained the light of Truth. The first thing I did was to dismiss the nurse and throw away all the medicine.
