MAINTAINING TRUST IN GOD

From the June 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When people came to Jesus to be healed, he did not try to ascertain if their difficulty was dangerous, acute, or chronic. He sometimes inquired where their faith rested, and if they really desired to be made free. Certain ones were told that this would be according to their belief or faith. He understood that the power to heal was in Mind, God, and that this power could be received in human experience by bringing thought into accord with the divine, thereby eliminating false trusts, which obscure the healing power.

It is a truism that one is ever trusting something. In fact, one trusts that to which one accords power. When humanity is willing to look beyond its own limited sense for relief from its woes, it will be ready to turn to the only living and true God as the source of all deliverance, comfort, and satisfaction.

Students of Christian Science are learning that they are safe when trusting God, because they are gaining an understanding of what He really is. It is not difficult to trust Him who has created all that really exists, who has all power, who is always present, who is unerring, infinite Mind, unfailing Truth, boundless Love. Certainly one can know that His perfect law is omniactive, and that His harmonious government is unopposable. Having gained the sweet assurance that God is Love, unchanging Principle, one can trust Him with more certainty than one can trust anything visible to the material senses. Nor can one have true confidence in God as unchanging Principle without recognizing that man as His image cannot deviate from perfection. Trusting God is not alone for the purpose of making one healthy or harmonious. God has already made His own image and likeness perfect, and ever maintains him so. Understanding and relying on God, however, destroys the material beliefs which would darken our vision of man as Mind's divine idea, complete and perfect now. True trust in Him helps and heals by evidencing to human thought man's present likeness to God, good.
