Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has provided many sources of help for those who are endeavoring to demonstrate in their own lives the truth of Christian Science as set forth in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Among these are the testimonies appearing constantly in our periodicals. It is with appreciation and gratitude that Christian Scientists recount the demonstrations of the power of Truth in their own experience, and thus share with others the good that they themselves have received.
There is often some particular experience that fills its place in one's memory as a constant source of reassurance should discouragement attempt to creep in, and I should like to tell of one such demonstration.
I had had a very severe attack of pneumonia, so severe that I have always felt that I should have passed on had it not been for Christian Science treatment, on which I entirely relied. The head of the company by which I was employed at the time was very much opposed to Christian Science, and when I returned to the office I was told that inasmuch as I had inconvenienced them by not having medical treatment my services were no longer needed. My father, who was not a Christian Scientist, was incapacitated. My income had been the support of the family, and owing to my illness there was no surplus. I was still weak physically, and the very helplessness of the situation from a human standpoint made it necessary and natural to turn to God for a solution of the difficulty, and this was done with complete freedom from all sense of anxiety.
