A number of years ago, when I was a very young student of Christian Science, I experienced the recurrence, in a severe form, of an old condition resulting from an accident. I worked as best I knew how at that time, but the difficulty was not mastered. In a weakened condition. I was forced by relatives to go to a hospital. Here I stayed for two months, unable to get out of bed.
Later I experienced a recurrence of exactly the same thing in the same place. Mrs. Eddy says on page 167 of Science and Health, "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." This time I decided to stand my ground and radically rely on God. It was made clear to me that I had to face the situation fearlessly and conquer the belief of mortal mind or I should never be free. First, I discarded the medicine that was prescribed for the relief of pain. I declared that if God was All-in-all, He was capable of handling the situation more effectively than was a mindless drug. I then called a practitioner. After I had been working with her for two days, the infected part opened and drained off of its own accord, and within one week I was out of bed and on my feet walking around. This afforded a very sharp contrast in methods of treatment and their result. It proved that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." The surgeon's knife, as sharp as it was, was incapable of separating error, or the belief of mortal mind, from man, perfect and whole, made in the image and likeness of God. Only God's Word could do that.
There was never a recurrence of that trouble and it has now been over nine years since my healing. During those years, God has graciously blessed me with increased domestic harmony, supply, and home. For all these blessings I have received through the application of Mrs. Eddy's wonderful revelation of Truth, I am most grateful.—San Francisco, California.
