CREATION

From the September 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is self-evident in the light of Christian Science that nothing can exist except as the product or creation of a self-existent creator. Deity alone is eternally self-existent, the one primal, infinite causation, without an opposite or an equal. The spiritual universe, including man, is the reflection or expression of omniactive, changeless Deity.

Christ Jesus, who revealed the nature of God as Father, said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise."

The world's concepts of Deity have been legion, from the heathen idols of wood or stone or gold up to the perfect, all-powerful, all-loving heavenly Father, whom Jesus revealed, whose law he obeyed, and whose power he manifested. Although it is impossible that there should be more than one Supreme Being, or Deity, humanity has ascribed many names to the one infinite Supreme Being. It is Jesus' superlative concept of God that Christian Science accepts wholly and completely. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this Science, writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 140,) "The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death."
