Testimonies of Healing

Many years ago I was transferred...

From the September 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many years ago I was transferred to a distant city to fill a position as car accountant of a belt-line railroad company, and it was while there among strangers that I became interested in Christian Science.

At this time I became very ill from a so-called incurable condition. For weeks I had not slept, had eaten very little, and had lost much weight. Having exhausted all material remedies, which held no hope for my recovery, I turned to Christian Science for healing. The woman in whose home I roomed, who was not a Christian Scientist, directed me to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and I was greatly impressed by the service. Afterward I asked to be introduced to a Christian Science practitioner. She lovingly assured me that I could be healed, that the real man does not exist in the fear of disease, discouragement, and ill-health, and that these erroneous suggestions are only mortal mind talking to itself, and are no part of man in God's image and likeness. These remarks encouraged me and I asked her to give me Christian Science treatments. Each day I went to her home and received a treatment in Christian Science, with the result that within a few weeks I was completely and permanently healed, and within a very short time I gained over fifty pounds in weight. In other words, that which had seemed to be so much a part of me had proved to be unreal. I was also completely healed of the tobacco habit, in which I had indulged for a number of years. Since then I have experienced numerous other healings in Christian Science, for which I am indeed grateful.

I soon joined a local branch church and The Mother Church, and have enjoyed the privilege of serving in various church activities, through which I have experienced much growth in Christian Science. It has also been my privilege to take class instruction from one of Mrs. Eddy's devoted students, and we have enjoyed the privilege of holding our association meetings in the original Mother Church. These annual visits to Boston, and our beloved Mother Church, have been a joy and inspiration to me. I wish to express my deep appreciation of The Christian Science Board of Directors for their loyalty, alertness, and unselfish serving; of those loyal students who are so ably carrying on the publication of our periodicals; of our alert and loyal Board of Lectureship, and of all who are supporting these activities. I am grateful to God for having given us our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and I am grateful to her for the great healing message she has given the world today.—
