From the September 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."

I am happy to express my gratitude for Christian Science. The first thing it brought into my life was hope. When I took up the study of this truth about God and man's relationship to Him, my outlook upon existence here was very dark. A short while before, my husband had passed on with a so-called hereditary disease, and loving relatives and friends advised me to be very careful in regard to my own health and that of my young daughter, or we too would be victims of this disease.

I shall ever be grateful to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for exposing the powerlessness of this law of heredity. With comfort and assurance I read in the textbook,"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 140),this statement: "The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death."
