Are the lectures on Christian Science being attended by a good percentage of people who have not heard many such lectures? Are the members of each branch church, under whose auspices a lecture is given, inviting their neighbors and friends to attend and sometimes helping them to do so? Is the public generally, including the strangers in the community, being informed of the time and place of the lecture and invited to attend it? If so, this is as it should be.
A Christian Science lecture is designed primarily for giving information concerning this religion. Its purpose is to inform those who desire to know what Christian Science is and how its teachings can be utilized in human affairs. In order that its purpose may be fulfilled, therefore, the audience should include individuals who are not already students of this Science of Mind-healing, those seekers for Truth who know little or nothing of its healing and saving power but who are desirous of learning something about it. The audiences should consist of a goodly number of inquirers in the community, as well as of Christian Scientists.
Among the means of effectively notifying the general public that a free lecture on Christian Science is to be delivered at a stated time and place are advertisements in newspaper columns, cards placed in shop windows, in streetcars and busses, brief announcements on bulletin boards of clubs and associations, and by radio from local stations. Cards of invitation sent by mail or handed to individuals are also appropriately used by branch churches and their members and adherents.
